We are pleased to announce the 13th Annual Georgetown Bighorn Sheep Festival. The event celebrates Colorado’s State mammal, the Rocky Mountain Bighorn sheep. This is a FREE festi- val for all ages with events taking place at the Gateway Visitor Center, Strousse Park and other points throughout the town. Check the website for schedule of events.
Opportunities are available throughout the day to watch and learn about bighorn sheep, plus, wildlife experts are on hand at the Gateway Visitor Center and Strousse Park to give educational presentations and answer questions. Children will have an opportunity to win prizes and learn about bighorn sheep by participating in bighorn sheep and wildlife themed games.
This year the event includes a “Bighorn Sheep: Rock Stars of the Rockies” photo contest with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention prizes. For details: https://www.facebook.com/george- townbighorns/app/167200180055017/
There is something for everyone including face painting and crafts for the children, music, ven- dors and in the middle of much of the activity, Guanella Pass Brewery’s beer garden patio is open for business. Artisans and shop owners in Georgetown will showcase their wildlife related art, gifts, crafts, and other goods. Activities will take place at Strousse Park (6th Street and Rose Street), Gateway Visitor Center (1491 Argentine Street) and other locations to be announced.
All this, plus take advantage of the sites and activities Georgetown is famous for including the many hiking trails in the surrounding area, the historic Georgetown Loop Train and Mining Park, visit Hotel De Paris Museum, The Energy Museum, Hamill House Museum and guided walking tours through Silver Queen Walking Tours.
For people planning on visiting the Georgetown Loop Railroad, they should be sure to take ad- vantage of Parks and Wildlife interpreters on hand and visit Strousse Park to participate in the festivities before and after they ride the train. The Bighorn Sheep festival takes place Saturday, November 10 and runs from 10 am until 3 pm.
